Atlas won the Mexican title after 70 years of waiting

The last Sunday Los Zorros del Atlas beat León F.C. in the penalties series by 4 to 3 goals in the Jalisco stadium, thanks to this Atlas got its second title in the Mexican league after a wait of 70 years.


Atlas played a more aggressive game than The panzas verdes, with 20 shots and nine to the goal, meanwhile Leon just had two shots to the goalkeeper. In spite of that, the game finished with just one goal from Aldo Rocha that put the global score tied.


At the end of the regular and extra time, the match was decided from the penalties kicks, in which the striker Julio Furch shot the last kick to give the victory for los rojinegros.


The last time that Atlas won a championship was in 1951 with Eduardo Valdatti as coach, in That occasion beaten to their eternal rival, las Chivas del Guadalajara, with just one goal difference.


Now the name Diego Cocca will be in the history of the club thanks to finishing a drought of seventy years without being champion of the Mexican football league.
